The Missouri Army National Guard soldiers from the 548th Transportation Company left Trenton on April 11, and were greeted by local Veterans of Foreign Wars and ladies auxiliaries as their convoy passed along the intersection of Hwy. 13 and Hwy. 6.
The Trenton based unit is made up of 170 soldiers and is being deployed to Afghanistan for a year where they will be involved in convoy operations. Gov. Jay Nixon spoke to the soldiers before their sendoff during ceremonies at the Ketcham Community Center in Trenton. Other well-wishers from the Gallatin area lined the roads to wave flags and cheer the convoy as it passed. The three busses of soldiers were escorted by the Patriot Guard motorcycle riders and local law enforcement. They were to board a plane in Kansas City to receive final training at Fort Bliss, Texas, before leaving next month for Afghanistan.
