Farmers’ Electric Cooperative is offering a free "Live Line Demo" safety presentation for area powerline workers, firefighters, law enforcement, emergency personnel, and area ambulance service first responders.
The safety demonstration will be held at the cooperative’s warehouse, located just north of the main office in Chillicothe, on Thursday, April 14, at 9 a.m.
"The Live Line, or Hot Line, demonstration will provide a lot valuable information for the law enforcement and emergency personnel in the area," said Troy Hermanson, Operations Manager at Farmers’ Electric. "There are times when these people arrive at an accident scene, or, for example, a house fire and they may be exposed to a potentially hazardous situation and not be aware of it."
There will be a number of topics covered during the program, which is being conducted by Pike Energy Solutions. The demonstration includes a simulated live contact with 7,200 volts of electricity. The program will also show the severity of electrical contact injuries, how a recloser operates, working with fallen power lines, surprising conductors of electricity and much more, said Hermanson.
"If any local fire, police or emergency services department wants to attend, we ask they give us a call so we can be set up to handle the extra people in attendance," Hermanson added. "This is important information for emergency personnel who already have a difficult job."
Hermanson asked anyone wishing to attend to call 660-646-4281 or 1-800-279-0496, extension 11.
