The Gallatin Bulldog Pride Band received their seventh I rating in a row at State Band Contest on April 1, at Northwest Missouri State University.

State Band Contest is a three step process beginning with a 20 minute warm up, tune up, and set up period. The next 20 minute block is the performing of prepared pieces of contrasting style. This year Gallatin performed "Military Escort" by Harold Bennett, and "Trail of Tears" by James Barnes. The last 20 minute segment of the process is sight reading, where a piece of music unknown to the director or students is handed out and the director has six minutes to instruct the students on how to perform the piece. At the end of the instruction the students must perform without stopping for further instructions.
The music is judged by a panel of three state certified judges. This year the Gallatin band received the highest I rating available with all judges awarding them with a superior rating. The band has received a I rating for the past seven years, but only one time before in 2007 had the band received a four point I rating.
"I am very proud of the band members as they performed with great skill and demanded respect in every aspect of the trip to State Band Contest," Mr. Edwards, band instructor, commented. "The Gallatin Bulldog Pride Band is representing Gallatin R-5 and the great town of Gallatin very well in every event and competition they go to."
He added that he hoped the band can achieve yet more positive recognition for Gallatin at their performance during the Independence Day Parade in Washington D.C.
