Hats Off, the banquet held in honor of Pattonsburg making 14 out of 14 points on its APR will be Monday, April 18, at NWMSU.
In other business at the meeting of the Pattonsburg R-2 Board of Education held March 16, all staff were rehired for the 2011-2012 school year.
The board approved paying 100% of employee insurance for the 2011-2012 school year.
Derek Petty was approved by the board as P.E. teacher (K-12), varsity girl’s softball, and varsity girl’s basketball. Petty has been employed at Union Star for the last 17 years where he has coached basketball and softball. He has his masters in physical education and has been teaching dual credit classes for the last few years.
Thursday, April 21, is the scheduled make-up snow day (not Monday, April 25). The school will also have make-up days on May 18-19-20.
Next board meeting is at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19.
The school will continue with the law firm of Humphrey, Farrington & McClain, P.C. as legal counsel.
The board approved paying for dual credit tuition for all junior and senior students starting in the 2011-2012 school year. The school will be offering dual credit classes taught by its teachers and will be able to offer on-line dual credit classes to fit the individual students’ career plan.
The agenda for the senior trip to Branson was approved.
Attendance rate for the month of February at the high school was 95%.
There were 63% of our 7-12 grade students making the honor roll in the third quarter, up from 57% last year. And 78% of parents attended the Parent/Teacher Conferences last week, up from 63% last year
Sarah Emerson was recognized as an HDC Honorable Mention for girls basketball.
Courtney Warford will be our Girls State representative this summer. Courtney was also selected as the Area FFA Secretary.
FBLA District winners and their ratings were: Justin Conover 1st Personal Finance and Public Speaking II; Courtney Warford 1st Electronic Career Portfolio; Ethan Teel 1st Public Speaking I; and Emily Dilley and Morgan Gardner 1st Desktop Publishing.
Dance and Flags Team performed at the High School Final Four in Columbia.
FFA/FBLA Gold Rush raised $1,600 for childhood cancer. Pattonsburg has teams in the following areas of competition: Knowledge, Poultry, Dairy Foods, Soil, Public Speaking, and Agricultural Mechanics.
Track practice began March 21.
Upcoming events include: April 1 – music contest at NWMSU; April 9 – District HS Academic Competition; April 11-20 – JH MAP Testing; April 14-15 – State FFA Convention; April 16 – PROM; April 22-25 – Easter break; and April 28-30 – MSHSAA Music Festival.
February attendance for the month was 96.63% at the elementary.
Students nominated for "honesty" were the following: preschool – Kelsey Crabtree, kindergarten – Sam Coin, first grade – Chavez Roeder, second grade – Dylan McCrary, third grade – Brittani Worthey, fourth grade – Logan Pankau, fifth grade – Peyton Jones, sixth grade – Vanessa Fredricks. Student of the Month was Logan Pankau.
MAP testing begins for the elementary the week of March 28. The school will begin with communication arts, grades 3-6. The week of April 4, students will be doing the math portion of MAP, grades 3-6, with science, grade 5, the week of April 11.
Pattonsburg’s fifth and sixth grade basketball teams had a good showing in the Pattonsburg Tournament. Girls earned a second place trophy and our boys received consolation trophy. Both teams are playing in the North Daviess Tournament. The girls won their first game against Bethany. The boys lost their first game against Bethany, but won their second game against the North Daviess Knights.
Pattonsburg had 65 moms and grandmothers come in for muffins at breakfast time on March 8. On March 15, 45 dads and grandpas came in for donuts. The book fair was being held in the library at the time.
Parent/Teacher conferences went very well.
Third quarter awards assembly was held.
The Elementary Book Fair earned $2,571.50. The class collecting the most money was the first grade with $115.73.
There will be an early dismissal on Friday, March 25, for teacher in-service in the afternoon.
