Jim Ruse, former superintendent of the Gallatin school district, will fill the vacancy created when the Chillicothe Board of Education dismissed Superintendent Dr. Linda Gray.

Ruse is a part-time assistant superintendent at Chillicothe R-2.
Smith became superintendent of schools in 2008 and announced her resignation in October 2010.
During a special executive session of the board held Feb. 28, following a lengthy discussion between Smith and the board, it was determined and voted that Smith would be dismissed from her duties as Chillicothe R-2 superintendent. The decision was effective immediately and carried a 6-0 vote, with board member Randy Constant not present.
The action shall have no effect on the district’s contractual obligations to Smith, as her contract is not due to expire until June 30, 2011.
