The 4th Annual Polar Plunge on Feb. 26 at Lake Viking was a splashing success, raising $27,700 to date.
A record 81 brave men and women from around the area donned costumes and swimwear to take a chilly dip into Lake Viking. Their Reason for Freezin’… the athletes of Special Olympics Missouri.
Online fund-raising is still going on! Organizers of the plunge still hope to raise an additional $3,300 to reach the goal of $31,000. Donations can be made at www.somo.org/lakevikingplunge.
Top fund-raisers included the following: Top individual fund-raiser: James Rash, $7,436; Top group fund-raiser: Plunging for a Reason, $1,897; Top school fund-raiser: Gilman City Hawks, $350; Top law enforcement fund-raiser: CRCC, $3,686.
Competition for the Golden Plunger was steep this year. Participants were encouraged to come in costume and compete for the chance to take home the "golden plunger."

This year’s event was held in conjunction with Chillicothe Correctional Center and Crossroads Correctional Center. Presenting sponsor was the Missouri Association of Student Councils.

Special Olympics Missouri is a year-round program of sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. More than 15,000 athletes participate in 21 Olympic-type sports throughout the state.
