Inurnment for Darlene Durham will be held at a later date at the Crab Orchard Cemetery near Gallatin. Arrangements are by McWilliams Funeral Home In Gallatin.
Darlene A. Durham, 78, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, at her home in Gallatin.
Darlene was born Sept. 7, 1932, to Joseph and Albina (Sander) Brull in Hays, Kan. She lived in the Hays area as a child and attended grade school in St Peters and high school in Ward, Kan.
Darlene was united in marriage to Lee Durham on Feb. 26, 1950, in Kansas City, Kan.
Lee was in the Navy and the couple lived in South Carolina and Oakland, Calif. After leaving the service in the late 50’s the couple bought their home in Kansas City, Kan., where they raised their family and lived for 18 years.
Darlene worked as an elevator operator at a bank. She was thrilled when she had the opportunity to assist President Truman with a ride in the elevator. She also worked in a school cafeteria, where she was an assistant cook.
Lee and Darlene purchased an 80 acre farm west of Gallatin in 1979 to enjoy living in the country. Darlene worked as a caretaker for many years making it possible for elderly people to stay in their home in Gallatin; she volunteered at the thrift store in Gallatin; and sold items at a booth in a mall.
Darlene attended the Mary Immaculate Church in Gallatin.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lee Durham in 1998, brother, Justin Burll and sisters, Flossie Culley and Stella Morton.
Survivors include her children, Ronald Durham and Sherene Durham, both of Kansas City; two sisters, Charlotte Looker of Arizona, and Connie Catron of Independence; two brothers, Warren Brull of Florida, and Layden Brull of Overland Park, Kan; five grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.http://www.mcwilliamsfuneralhomes.com
