Chris Hodge, the high school principal at Pattonsburg R-2, and Cheryl Cornett, the elementary principal, were both awarded contracts for the 2011/2012 school year.
Pattonsburg students have missed nine days of school due to snow. The board amended the calendar again to accommodate additional snow days during their meeting held Feb. 16.
The state has forgiven one day and one day was made up in January. Another day was made up this week on Feb. 21, President’s Day. The rest of the makeup days are March 14, April 25, and May 18 and 20.
There is a bill in the House, if passed and approved by the governor, would forgive the week of Jan. 31 through Feb. 4. Unfortunately schools will not know if this bill will become law until late April or even into May.
The Pattonsburg R-II school district has hired Kim Fish as a part-time Spanish teacher for the 2011-2012 school year.
The board approved the recommendation to drop ITV classes for next year. The school will be offering more dual credit classes from the staff and will be offering online and video classes throughout the school day in order to individualize the student’s education.
The proposed 2011-2012 school calendar was approved. The leadership team, along with administration, worked together to complete this calendar. This will be the first reading of the calendar.
The board paid for the event insurance for the "after prom" event this year. The administration and board of the Pattonsburg School District believes the after prom event promotes a safe and fun environment for our students.
Next board meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16.
The board was given a report on the effectiveness and status of the HDC Network teams. As of right now nine out of 11 HDC schools are participating in this cooperative effort to bring rural content teachers together to share ideas and lessons while being led by professional content instructors from the NWRPDC who facilitate these teams.
This year the five teams are science, math, language arts, and fifth and sixth grade math and third and fourth grade language arts. A K-2 reading team and a social studies team may be added next year.
Attendance rate at the high school for the month of January was 93.27%.
Justin Conover was invited to the DAR reception in Gallatin.
Courtney Warford received first place at the district FBLA contest and will advance to state FBLA competition.
Emily Dilley and Dillon Lowrey were recognized by the Ladies Auxiliary as Patriot Pen winners.
Basketball Senior Night is Friday, Feb. 25, vs. Ridgeway. District basketball begins Saturday, Feb. 26, at Pattonsburg.
Junior High Academic Team Conference Tournament is at Tri-County this Saturday with eight students participating with a record of 6-2. JH Science Olympiad saw one third, four fourth, and two fifth place results with 22 students participating. HS Science Olympiad was held Feb. 5 with five students participating. Justin Conover and Samantha Parman placed first in ecology. There were also fourth and fifth place finishes.
The Senior class will be participating in the NAEP test this week.
The sophomores visited NCCC.
FFA appreciation breakfast is Wednesday, Feb. 23, from 6:30-8:30 in the FACS room.
Third quarter ends Friday, March 4.
Attendance for January was 91.3% at the elementary. Students selected for demonstrating the character trait "tolerance" were as follows: preschool: Evan Bell; kindergarten: Sam Fredricks; first grade: Ryelin Hulett; second grade: Dylan McCrary; third grade: Landon Huff; fourth grade: Amber Shaw; fifth grade: Katia Goodpasture; and sixth grade: Steven Webb.
The "Student of the Month" was Dylan McCrary.
Daviess County Spelling Bee was Feb. 22 at the North Daviess High School in Jameson. Students who will be representing the fifth grade are Justin Booth and Peyton Jones. Students from sixth grade are Caleb Teel and Alexis Harris.
Students will continue to work on communication arts and math curriculum in March. Sally Minnick and Margaret Bongerter will be facilitating these professional development days.
March Madness begins for fifth and sixth grade basketball teams as they begin tournament play in March. The Pattonsburg Tournament will be on March 7, 9, 10, and 11. The North Daviess Tournament will be March 14, 15, 16, and 17. Students will also be playing on March 24 at Winston.
Third quarter ends on Friday, March 4.
Parent-Teacher Conferences will be Thursday, March 10, from 2-8 p.m.
There will be no school on Friday, March 11. School will be in session on Monday, March 14.
Elementary students will be inviting moms/grandmothers to breakfast on Tuesday, March 8, for "Muffins for Moms" Day. On Tuesday, March 15, dads/grandpas are invited to "Donuts for Dads" Day.
Third quarter awards assembly will be held on Thursday, March 17, at 8:06 a.m.
