The Gallatin Theatre League is kicking off their 26th year with a major project to replace all the seating in the auditorium and refinish the floor. The theater now has 320 seats, and the new configuration will reduce the seating to 250 seats, allowing for wider aisles, and more leg-room between rows, along with the addition of four handicap accessible platforms. Once the old seats are removed, the entire floor will have to be completely refinished before the new seats can be installed.
The seat project is being coupled with the new GTL Patron Program, and will provide the resources to make this long time dream a reality. The projected cost is $50,000, and the League is seeking donations to meet at least 75% of the cost. A grant will be written for the remaining 25%. The League is hoping to receive enough donations by June 1, so the project can be completed sometime this fall. The GTL Second Annual Fundraiser Dinner held in November netted $4,500, which has been earmarked specifically for the seating project.
The Gallatin Theatre League Patrons is a new annual program for our supporters. All contributors to the Patrons Program will have their name listed in each of our production programs for that year. The Patrons Program, similar to any booster or backers program, will help provide needed capital for productions and improvements, however 2011 donations will be exclusively targeted toward the seat project.
Donations are currently being accepted as part of our Patron Program, with designations as follows: Up to $25 – Fan Club; $26 – $50 – Sound Crew; $51 – $75 – Light Crew; $76 – $100 – Actor; $101 – $149 – Director; $150 and above – Star *
*Star Level Patron: With each $150 donation, a plaque with an engraved inscription, of a business name, family name, or in honor/memory of a loved one, will be permanently secured to one of the new seats. Only 250 plaques are available.
GTL is hoping to secure corporate and business sponsors, as well as individual donations for the seating plaques.
Elaine Bohannon, GTL president, stated "As we continue to make progress in upgrading our theater, replacing the seats has been postponed for years. I’m pretty sure those seats are older than I am, and anyone who has attended any production at the theater, knows how badly they need to be replaced. The area community and our GTL patrons have truly been priceless with their loyalty and support over the past 26 years. We are confident the 2011 seating project will be no exception, and we appreciate the commitment to helping us attain this much needed improvement."
