In other business at the Jan. 19 meeting of the Board of Education, six candidates signed up to run for three positions on the board: Craig Lambert, Gene Thatcher, Shandi Allison Gardner, Larry Huskey, Lyle Hoover and Jennifer Moore.

The board discussed the new state initiative called "Rebooting Missouri." This initiative deals with ways for the state to save money or spend it more wisely. While this sounds like a great idea, the concern is the lack of representation for rural schools and the negative impact on funding for rural schools that could come as a result of several of the suggestions.

The calendar was changed so the third make-up day for inclement weather would be made up by reducing the calendar from 175 days to 174 days. The fourth make-up day would be April 21, and any more would be added to the end of the school year.

The first reading of the 2011-12 calendar took place.

The next board meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Feb. 16.
