As the competitive event season is right around the corner, the Gallatin FBLA chapter has been hard at work on their American Enterprise Project. The American Enterprise Project is a competitive event in which the chapter teaches an enterprise concept to the community or school. The chapter decided to target school-aged children to increase their knowledge of the American Enterprise concept.
Mary Jarboe’s second grade class was selected to complete the project. While working with Mrs. Jarboe’s class, Ashley Burns, Becca Mott, and Molly Mott from the Gallatin FBLA chapter gave a pre-survey to determine the students’ current basic economic knowledge. They then presented a lesson to the class focusing on wants and needs and completed a hands-on play-dough activity where the students modeled some examples of wants and needs.
After the activity, the class took a survey in which tested their knowledge in what they had learned from the lesson presented. The findings of the follow-up survey showed a dramatic increase in the knowledge of the concept. The next generation of future business leaders will now have a better understanding of the American Enterprise System.
Ashley Burns, Becca Mott, and Molly Mott will prepare a business report from their findings and submit it for competition at the state FBLA leadership conference in April. [Submitted Photo]
