Pep rally will be Friday at 2:15 p.m. at the school. Crowning of royalty will be after the game with a Winston High School student dance following the crowning.
Other business conducted at the Winston R-6 Board meeting held Jan. 20, included a report from Superintendent Brian Robinson that the following days are scheduled as weather make up days: Feb. 21, April 25 and May 16.

Board candidates filing for the April 5, 2011, election are Barb Youtsey, Tiffany Cameron, Shelly Mason, Gerald Uthe, Kendall Weigand and Tim Caldwell. This year’s election will consist of three – three year terms.

The Distinction in Performance Award Banquet for the recognition of the school districts outstanding performance this past year will be the evening of Monday, April 18, in Maryville.

Next Regular Board Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, at 6 p.m.

Elementary Principal reported an attendance rate of 97.19%.

December Students Of The Month are Brian Lewis, first grade and Ashley Noel, fifth grade

January elementary theme is "respect."

Family Literacy Night will be held on Jan. 25. This event will give students and parents a chance to set down and read together and participate in various other activities throughout the evening.

The elementary teachers are continuing work with instructional coaches from the NWRPDC to improve student engagement which increases student learning.

High school principal reported an attendance rate of 96.53%.

December Students Of The Month were Amber Mullen and Tyler Mason.

A new promethium board has been hooked up in the math room. It allows the teacher to use the board/wall as a touch screen for computer projections during lessons.
Junior high academic bowl season starts this month.

Former Winston Coach Don Sturgis (1955-58) will serve as Winston boys’ team host at the NCMC Holiday Hoops.

High School Principal Eric Lewis was appointed as the English Language Learners (ELL) coordinator for the district

The board approved policy updates to policy and regulation 1621 to include specific No Child Left Behind (NCLB) language recommended during the district’s federal programs review.

Program reports were approved in the areas of community education and professional development.

The board approved a resolution for the redemption of a portion of the district’s current general obligation bonds.

A closed session was held to conduct the superintendent’s evaluation. The board offered to extend Brian Robinson’s contract through the 2013-2014 school year.
