An early morning house fire has resulted in two fatalities.

The fire started at about 1 a.m. on Jan. 22, at a rural home located on Klondike Road outside of Gilman City.
The fire at the two-story residence fatally injured Brenna Lurten, 18. Firefighters found her remains while battling the blaze. Briley Lurten, 11, also died from injuries he suffered in the house fire. He had been transported from the scene to Children’s Mercy Hospital.
The children’s parents, Brian Lurten, 44, and Maria Lurten, 40, were taken to KU Medical Center in serious condition.
The fire is still under investigation.
The Gilman City Fire District initially responded to the fire call and was later joined by firemen from Bethany, North Harrison and Cainsville.
