Two people were injured in an accident that happened at about 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 18, on Hwy. 6 about two miles west of Gallatin.

According to a report by the Missouri State Highway Patrol Patricia Youngs, 58, and Jesse Reynolds, 94, both of Gallatin, were eastbound and both vehicles had stopped for a Gallatin school bus unloading children. Another vehicle driven by Gerald Hays, 79, of Trenton failed to stop and rear-ended the Youngs vehicle which in turn rear-ended the Reynolds vehicle.

Youngs’ vehicle traveled off the south side of Hwy. 6 and came to rest upright facing east in a private drive. Hays’ vehicle traveled off of the north side of Hwy. 6 and remained upright where it came to rest facing east. Reynolds’ vehicle traveled off the south side of the highway and came to rest upright on the shoulder facing east.

Hays received moderate injuries and was taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. Youngs received minor injuries and was taken to Cameron Regional Medical Center. Both were taken by Daviess County Ambulance. They were wearing their seat belts.

Hays was driving a 2007 Chrysler Town and Country and Reynolds was driving a 2005 Dodge Neon. Both of their vehicles were moderately damaged. Youngs was driving a 2006 GMC Envoy which had minor damage.

The accident was investigated by Tpr. John Gilliland, assisted by Daviess County Sheriff and KAW Fire Department.
