Dear Editor:
A huge thank-you to Gallatin and the surrounding school districts for their terrific support of High School Holiday Hoops 2010.
The recently completed nine-day event exceeded the expectations of the steering committee and once again, the community rallied behind this event. A total of 45 high schools were represented on the NCMC campus with over 1,330 student athletes participating, not to mention cheerleaders, managers, coaches, school administration and family. Add to this count the tremendous number of fans from throughout the state and the number is unbelievable! NCMC has never seen the impact of visitors like Holiday Hoops – now the largest high school holiday basketball program in the entire state.
The list of volunteers who stepped up to assist with this event was equally outstanding. And for the first time, volunteers from the surrounding communities offered their assistance with a waiting list of volunteers left untapped showing the support is even greater than utilized.
All one had to do was drive down ninth street during Holiday Hoops and find both pedestrian and vehicular traffic on an increase during this event. Several merchants have commented that the number of visitors to their stores was at an all-time high and we are appreciative of the hospitality extended to our holiday guests.
Plans are well underway for 2011 and the seventh annual event is expected to be even bigger that this year’s event with more schools and even larger schools contracting to participate. Look for even some out of state schools choosing to come to Trenton. Our event has become recognized throughout the Midwest as one of the most successful and organized basketball programs around.
Holiday Hoops is good for NCMC, good for the Trenton area and good fo our region. An event of this magnitude can only be successful when the college and the community embrace it. On behalf of the NCMC Foundation and the Hoops Steering Committee, a simple thanks to everyone for making High School Holiday Hoops 2010 a huge success!
