Ralph Franklin Hornsby, born Feb. 22, 1931, at Bucklin, Mo., passed away Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, at his home in St. Joseph.

Ralph was a graduate of Meadville High School and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. On Dec. 26, 1951, he married Ruth Dix at Trenton, Mo. She passed away March 8, 2009.

He retired in 1992 from Walnut Grove Products and Cargill Inc. after 37 years as product distribution manager at Chillicothe and Cameron, Mo. Following his retirement, he drove dealer trades for Vic Auto.

Ralph was a member of Wyatt Park Christian Church; Western Star Masonic Lodge #15; The East Hills Optimist Club, American Legion Post #359, serving on the Honor Guard; So-Dance Club; and was a Voter Poll worker.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Noble and Dice (Griggs) Hornsby; two sisters, Nadine Ashpaugh and Wava Treon and brothers Ira and Richard "Skip" Hornsby.

Survivors include daughter, Creeth Hawks, Broken Bow, Neb.; sons, Kyle "Kip" Hornsby and wife Kimberly, St. Joseph, Mo., and Lonnie Hornsby, Garland, Texas; sisters, Wilda Jefferson, Mexico, Mo., Roberta Stephenson, Marceline, Mo.; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and special friend, Marylou Young, Savannah, Mo.

The body of Mr. Hornsby has been cremated. Memorial Service 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wyatt Park Christian Church. Inurnment Mt. Auburn Cemetery, St. Joseph, Mo., at a later date.
