This year marked a new gift of giving with The Dance Company. Dec. 5 was the day for the first Dance Luncheon Charity Recital, put on by the students of Gallatin’s Dance Company.
The Gallatin Elementary Gym was the place to be that day as "Dance the Gift of Christmas" theme featured a catered luncheon by Tammy Gay and served by the board of the Active Aging Resource Center in Gallatin with Deanna Lewis, administrator, in charge of the dining area.
Students, with the help of family members, put together baskets for a silent auction. The money raised through the auction was then donated to schools, Active Aging Resource Center, local food bank, and other worthy causes throughout the northwest region.
The students, ages 2-20, performed recital and intro-competitive tap, jazz, clogging, cheer, acro and hip-hop numbers.
The afternoon was started with a prayer by Tyson Batson to bless the many talents of the students in the studio, who give at this time of the year to help others. Jessica and Donna King provided vocal Christmas duets. Karla Michener, owner and instructor of the Learning Time Preschool, gave the Biblical reading with Dance Company students portraying angels, stars, and wisemen. Santa and Mrs. Claus made their annual visit with toys for all the students who helped entertain the audience while they enjoyed the catered meal/performance.
The 2010-2011 students had wanted to implement something different when forming this years goals and decided their annual charity recital could be a new variety performance that would benefit and entertain the community.
Dance teachers, Emily Michener, Kathryn Everly, and Sydney Elbert also performed with the students to add to the entertainment of dances. Vera Nelson, owner and instructor of The Dance Company, has always encouraged the students to give through their talents of dance. She hosts and sponsors this event each year to also give back to the community and those less fortunate. The Dance Company will resume classes in January and begin preparation for the 2011 competitive season and spring recital in June.
