The Lady Hornets rolled over Trenton, 71-34, in what was expected to be a competitive battle against an improved Lady Bulldog squad. The Hornet boys blasted Newtown-Harris, 81-26, to earn their second straight tournament title victory over an HDC opponent.

Hornet junior Jaylund Powell received the MVP award after a 29-point effort in the title game and 74-point total in three games. Senior Lindsay Vollmer became a four-time all-tournament honoree for the Lady Hornets and picked up her second straight MVP award.

Maysville=s girls upset Winston, 51-39, in Saturday afternoon=s third place game. The Lady Redbirds held a 26-25 lead at the break but could not maintain the pace in the second half as the Lady Wolverines pulled away with a 16-13 surge.

Gilman City=s boys used a 25-point second quarter to take control of their third place contest against Trenton. The Hawks held off a Bulldog charge at the end to win, 75-65.

Gallatin=s bid for a pair of consolation titles failed to materialize, despite good first half play by both Bulldog and Lady Bulldog teams. Newtown-Harris took the girls consolation trophy with a 43-31 victory. Maysville=s boys prevailed, 52-45, against Gallatin.

The Lady Bulldog press created turnovers and a 9-0 run led to a 13-4 GHS lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Lady Tigers responded with a 13-4 run of their own to tie the game at halftime, 17-17. A 14-4 run in the third put Newtown firmly in control.

Tara Collings scored every possible way for the Lady Tigers, hitting six 2-point buckets, a pair of treys and 11 of 18 shots from the foul line for a game-high 29. Mercedes Foster added 10 for Newtown-Harris.

Ashley Burns and Kaitlyn Hefley each scored six points to lead Gallatin.

Consistent scoring was a problem for the Bulldog boys in their consolation contest. An 18-point second quarter gave Gallatin a 24-18 halftime lead but the Wolverines won the battle the rest of the way, 34-21.

Devin Hall scored 10 of his 12 points for Gallatin in the second quarter. Dexter Daniel also totaled 12 for the Bulldogs, with all but four coming in the final quarter.
