In other business at the Nov. 18 meeting of the Winston R-6 Board of Education, board candidate filing period for the April 5, 2011, election of board members was set for Dec.14, 2010 to Jan. 18, 2011. Candidates can file from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on regular school days. This year’s school board election will consist of three – three year terms. Terms have expired for board members Shelly Mason, Kendall Weigand and Barb Youtsey.
Elementary attendance rate for October was 96.05%.
October elementary Students of the Month were Marshall Farrell-second grade and Jordan Walker- third grade.
Elementary Student Council hosted a veteran’s breakfast for local vets. The students interviewed the veterans and are writing a book of the stories they learned.
November elementary theme is self-control.
High school attendance rate for October was 96.31%.
October high school Students of the Month were Rebecca Hiley and Davin Lucassen.
Congratulations to Denise Weigand and Tabitha Piburn on being selected to the NW District Concert Band. They will perform on Dec. 11.
Board approved the fiscal year 2009-10 audit report as provided by Lockridge Constant and Conrad LLC Certified Public Accountants. The report showed that the Winston R-VI School District is in compliance with all state regulations and statutes for public school financial accounting.
Program reports were approved in the areas of English as a Second Language, Services for Migratory Students, Homeless Program and Facility and Grounds.
Board policies updates were approved as provided by Missouri Consultants for Education
Future Dates of Importance are: Dec. 10-18 – HDC Conference Basketball Tournament at North Harrison; Dec. 11 – All District Band Performance at Platt City; Dec. 16 – PTO Meeting; Dec. 16 – School Board Meeting; Dec. 22 – Dismiss at 12:45 for Winter Break; Dec. 23 – Weather Make Up Day #1 if necessary.
