Gallatin’s initial success at running the football dried up in the second quarter and so did the Bulldogs’ chances of hanging with playoff bound South Harrison. The visiting purple and white Bulldogs used a 19-point second quarter to take a commanding lead and closed out Gallatin’s season with a 41-6 decision.

Following a dropped South Harrison pass in the end zone, Gallatin used double-digit running gains by Brandon and Chad Ness to move to the visitors’ 11-yard line, but a fourth and 13 situation brought on an unsuccessful field goal attempt.

South Harrison gambled on fourth and two with just seconds left in the first quarter, and picked up a drive-sustaining first down. Tyler Pickren followed blockers on a sweep and scored the game’s first touchdown from nine yards out.

A Pickren 52-yard punt return for a TD opened a flood of scoring for South Harrison in the second period. Quarterback Dylan Heitz found Billy Wendt open on the sideline for a 69-yard score. An interception by Alex Foster helped set up a Pickren dive-over-the-top score with 1:45 left to play in the half.

Despite a sustained drive in the third quarter by South Harrison, things were looking up for Gallatin when Hayden Bott tackled Pickren for a nine-yard loss that later helped bring on a fourth and goal situation from the GHS one-yard line. Gallatin’s interior defensive line held its ground and denied a score to Austin Vandivert.

The tide would turn again against Gallatin when, on fourth and long, a punt snap sailed over Brandon Ness’s head and out of the back side of the end zone for a safety. Gallatin’s ensuing punt back to South Harrison was returned 63 yards for a TD by Pickren. With Cole Wright’s kick, the score ballooned to 35-0.

Gallatin reached the scoreboard in the fourth quarter after a Chad Ness 68-yard scoring run. South Harrison added a late TD on another Pickren run.
