For the second straight year, Trenton’s Lady Bulldogs captured the Class 2, District 15 softball crown, and this time they went through Gallatin to get there in what turned out to be a tournament filled with upsets.
Trenton’s #3 seeded girls knocked off Gallatin, 10-0 in six innings last Wednesday to earn a shot at #2 Maysville, who they dispatched to get to the championship game. Fourth-seeded Bishop LeBlond got by South Harrison, 6-5, in eight innings, then knocked off top-seeded Hamilton, 4-1, to earn its spot in the title game.
Trenton defeated LeBlond, 6-3, and will face North Platte in the quarterfinal round.
Trailing 2-0 in the second inning, Gallatin loaded the bases with one out after three consecutive walks, but could not score. Trenton allowed only two other baserunners after that.
Celsie Baker delivered Gallatin’s lone hit in the first inning and took the loss on the mound. Gallatin’s season ended at 10-17.
