A one-win, three-loss showing in Saturday’s Benton Tournament gave the Lady Bulldogs a 3-5 overall record in the final week of the regular season and 10-16 overall mark heading into Class 2, District 15 play, which begins this afternoon (Wednesday) at Trenton High School.
Gallatin’s season has come full circle, in one respect. The sixth-seeded Lady Bulldogs take on #3 Trenton, the team they faced in their season opener, at 5:30 today. The winner will play at 5:30 Thursday against #2 Maysville. On the other side of the bracket, #4 Bishop LeBlond faces #5 South Harrison at 7 p.m. today. The winner will face top-seeded Hamilton at 7:00 on Thursday.
The district championship game will be held Saturday at 10 a.m.
Gallatin bounced back from a 7-0 loss to Benton and 16-1 loss to Schuyler County to defeat St. Pius X in Saturday’s loser’s bracket. A 5-0 setback to Mid-Buchanan bounced the Lady Bulldogs from the tournament.
Top hitters for Gallatin in the tournament were: Megan Beck, 4-for-11 with three runs scored; Morgan Horvatin, 4-for-11 with two runs and four batted in; Celsie Baker, 2-for-8 with a run; Ashley Burns, 3-for-9 with two runs; and Becca Mott, 3-for-8 with two runs scored.
The Lady Bulldogs defeated Polo, 12-9, last Thursday in a back-and-forth tussle. Horvatin, Kylie Cameron and Marissa McNeely had two hits each for Gallatin
Horvatin went 2-for-2 with an rbi and Beck and Burns each hit safely in last Wednesday’s 11-1 loss to Princeton.
