This is their first step in abolishing our family farms.

"My goal is the abolition of all animal agriculture."- John Goodwin, HSUS grassroots coordinator.

The United States Humane Society (HSUS) is a multibillion-dollar lobbying effort whose true mission is to eliminate animal agriculture. According to forms filed with the Internal Revenue Service, HSUS had an annual payroll of over $37 million in 2008 and less than one-half of one percent of donations benefited hands on pet shelters.

Today large animal rights organizations are taking advantage of a society so far removed from the family farm and laughing all the way to the bank. Less than 2% of the population is involved in food production, leaving the public misled.

The group claims that all farms are factory farms and animal producers treat their livestock as meat and milk machines with cruel inhumane practices. Ninety-eight percent of farms are small family farms, according to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). For example, Ninety-seven percent of beef cattle farms and ranches are less than fifty head.

HSUS has initiated Proposition B on the November ballot, the beginning of ballot initiatives to end animal agriculture. Do not be deceived by its name; "The Mo Puppy Mill Cruelty Prevention Act," does nothing to stop unlicensed breeders who do not follow current laws and regulations and in fact lowers the current standards set by the Missouri Animal Care and Facilities Act. Proposition B will add unnecessary laws and regulations that negatively affect the current dog breeders who are currently committed to the ethical treatment and care for their animals. HSUS is using this tactic to move forward in eliminating all animal agriculture. Our livestock is next.

Our farmers and ranchers method of productivity is supported by past and present public investment in years of scientific study in animal care and agriculture. According to the University of Missouri, as well as many other land grant Universities, millions of dollars are used in research for animal well-being and innovation. Technology allows the average U.S farmer to raise enough food for 141 people. In 1940, the number was only 19. The way we farm today is dependent on the fact that we have to feed the world.

If we allow HSUS to gain victory through monetary means, lies and immoral acts, we will allow them to continue to pose as a threat to agriculture. And for a young adult such as myself who can still recall the rewarding experiences gained as a farm kid, I am appalled to think that they have come this far.

Before you fall prey to HSUS’s scams, educate yourself and inform others. Support your local animal shelters, where monetary donations actually go to hands on care for animals who are in need.

If for one moment, you allow yourself to thinks that this will not directly affect you, think again. HSUS has a mission to eliminate all animal agriculture and animal related sports such as hunting and fishing. Join me in a mission to defend American agriculture. Join me in the ballot booth November 2 and vote NO on Proposition B. A "Yes" vote will be the first step in supporting HSUS’s true intentions and eliminating agriculture, as we know it today.
