The Gallatin Active Aging Resource Center formerly the Gallatin Senior Center, with the help of the local VFW, hosted a benefits program for area military veterans. Assistance by trained VFW advocates answered many questions in regards to medical, retirement and widow’s pension.

Over 23 Veterans or widows of Veterans were able to sit with an advocate on a one-to-one basis and get questions answered and the official forms filled out to get those with the right eligibility started for assistance.

The program was under the direction of Aging and Disability Resource Consultant Vera Nelson.

"The need for this program was recognized when dealing with the seniors at the center for some time and this was a perfect opportunity for our center to reach out and help those in our community," said Vera Nelson.

Wayne Kleinschmidt with the VFW from Trenton, along with Larry Warren , Chillicothe, Freddie Dunn, Lawson, Ray Clevenger, Gallatin, and Robert Roark, the new VFW Advocate, spent over four hours at the Active Aging Resource Center meeting with those Veterans.

The center plans to host another VFW program for the area Vets in the near future. If you are in need of assistance with VA, Medicare, Social Security or any senior needs, you are encouraged to contact the center and ask for Vera or Deanna Lewis, administrator.

The center, located next to the Gallatin Post Office, is open Monday through Friday. Phone calls of inquiry may be directed to advocates by dialing 660-663-2828 or toll free, 1-866-587-2272.
