Purdun, a returning all-stater, ripped the Bulldogs for a school-record 354 yards and seven touchdowns, including four in the second half and a final, fourth quarter touchdown with the game already out of reach.

Behind Purdun, the Tigers scored on five first-half possessions to take a 30-0 lead before the Bulldogs were able to break through on the scoreboard.

Brandon Ness scampered 71 yards in the second quarter and threw to Chad Ness for the two-point conversion. Brandon found the end zone again in the third quarter after a 56-yard run. He finished with 158 yards rushing on 11 carries and completed 12 of 22 passes for 87 yards.

Though Gallatin checks in at 0-3 this week, Coach Jeff White sees signs of improvement.

"I think the main positive you can draw from is the fact that our guys played hard and played disciplined for the most part in two of the three games we played," he said. "The three teams we played were just better football teams," he added. "We have put those games behind us and are focusing and working even harder this week."

The Bulldogs travel to Maysville this week to face a Wolverine team coming off blowout losses to the GRC frontrunners.

"Maysville is another good team with one win under its belt and their two losses come by way of Hamilton and Princeton, who have dominated every team they have played so far," said Coach White. "Maysville returns quite a few from last year and looks to have a pretty good offensive and defensive line," he added.

Coach White stressed that tackling has been a big issue for the Dogs so far and he also challenged his offensive and defensive lines to step it up as the team works through rough times.

"I expect to see us get much better as the season progresses," he stated.

Clash of the Titans

In what could be the biggest game of the year in the Grand River Conference, Hamilton, the 2009 Class 1 state champion and #2 ranked team in Class 2 after two weeks, travels to Princeton this Friday. The Tigers, despite being unbeaten, have yet to earn enough respect from the Associated Press to earn a spot in the Class 1 top ten.

Each team features a stingy defense and power running attack. Purdun leads the league with 15 touchdowns and 636 yards rushing. Hornet senior Trevor Dixon has rushed for 499 yards and 13 scores in limited duty. Both Dixon and Purdun figure to finish the season well in the lead on their respective school’s all-time scoring and rushing list.

Hamilton has won each of the last four meetings between the two teams.
