Not just the Gallatin Bulldogs, but all members of the Grand River Conference have struggled so far against opponents out of the KCI Conference.

Mid-Buchanan’s 50-6 win over Gallatin last Friday night helped the KCI surge to a 4-0 record against the GRC in only two weeks of action.

Gallatin, 0-2, continued to struggle offensively while giving up the big play on defense. Five of eight Mid-Buchanan scores covered 30 yards or more. The Bulldogs, who gave up nearly 450 yards in total offense, found themselves down, 37-0, with less than two minutes remaining in the first half.

Working out of the shotgun formation, quarterback Brandon Ness connected with brother Chad for two pass plays covering 30 yards. Brandon also scrambled for good yards to help move the Bulldogs into the red zone for just the second time in the game.

With 10 seconds left on the second quarter clock, Ness took a high snap from center, rolled right and outran pursuit three yards to the end zone pylon. A low snap helped negate a PAT attempt.

The Dragons tacked on lone touchdowns in each of the third and fourth quarters.

Gallatin’s task of getting that first win doesn’t get any easier this week when the Bulldogs welcome the 2-0 Princeton Tigers. Princeton pummeled Maysville, 35-0, to keep pace in the GRC with defending champion Hamilton, which pounded Polo, 46-0.

The Tigers feature one of the league’s top rushing attacks, led by senior running back Vance Purdun.
