They were two of 50 volunteers and 4-H supporters from around the state recognized for their service and dedication to the youth of University of Missouri Extension 4-H.
"It is our great pleasure to honor these exceptional members of our Missouri 4-H family by inducting them into the Hall of Fame. Their dedication to Missouri 4-H through volunteer service that totals 1,676 years combined is what makes the MU Extension 4-H Youth Development program what it is today" said Cheryl Reams, executive director of the Missouri 4-H Foundation.
George and Lula Smith were active supporters of Daviess County 4-H for more than 25 years. Throughout their lives, George and Lula served as 4-H leaders for countless projects.
Lula was Jamesport Brushy Squirrels 4-H Club Leader for over 20 years, and was active in county 4-H. George helped many 4-H swine project participants get started, by selling them purebred Chester Whites and Yorkshires from his herd.
Accepting their award were their daughters Brenda Smith, Janice Rose, and Martha Lockridge. Also pictured are, from left, Eulynn Davis, vice-president of the Missouri State 4-H Council, Ruth Tofle, chair of the Missouri 4-H Foundation, and Dominic Habjan, treasurer of the Missouri State 4-H Council.
