Gallatin R-5 School District has agreed to provide Sitemaster space to install a communications hub in an enclosed cabinet within the school and to place antennas on the roof of the school. In exchange the company will pay the district $500 per month for rent for the space, along with providing the district with several wireless modems and or PC cards for no charge.

In other business at the meeting of the Gallatin R-5 Board of Education held Thursday, Aug. 19, the school moved from the block schedule to the seven period day schedule.

Tammy Harris was offered employment as a special education aide for the high school. Deanna Swalley was offered a position as part time early childhood special education aide and part time Parents as Teachers implementer for the district.

Kayli Warner was appointed coach for junior high basketball.

The superintendent’s report included information about the facilities and meetings and other work around the school. Mrs. Cox presented enrollment numbers for the elementary. Mr. Elbert gave enrollment numbers for the high school.

The board reviewed its acceptance policy for out-of-district students wishing to enroll at Gallatin.

The Tax Rate Hearing was held. The board approved the new tax rate of $3.7249 per $100 of valuation for the district.

The Annual Secretary of the Board report was approved and forwarded to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

The tuition rate was set at $7,000 per student.

The board entered executive session to discuss personnel and student matters.

Kevin Hudson will complete the annual audit which will be ready for review at the September meeting.

Members signed up for the MSBA regional meeting in Chillicothe on Sept. 1.

Shelly Christopher’s resignation as elementary custodian was accepted. Interviews to fill the position will take place in the near future.

A waiver was approved for the graduation requirement of two physical education credits for Monica Hanson due to a conflict in scheduling.

Next meeting is at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 16 in the library.

School board members present were Brice Terry, Sandra Alden, Jesse Bird, Bill Irby, Don Smith, Trent Dowell and Tim Bradford. Also in attendance were Superintendent Dennis Croy, Board Secretary Lynda Swopes, Elementary Principal Toni Cox, High School Principal Chris Elbert, Assistant Principal Rick Lin and Maintenance Supervisor Bert Swopes. New teachers and employees present were Tammy Harris, Jon Lawinger and Josh Gannon.
