Chief Master Sergeant (CMSgt) Roger Woody and his family ask that you please join them in celebrating a landmark event in his military career — his retirement from the U.S. Air Force after 29 years of service.

Roger is currently assigned as the senior military analyst to the Office of the Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon, Washington, DC.

He is a native of Gallatin, where he was born on Aug. 4, 1963, to ‘Burr’ and Hazel Woody. He enlisted in the Army from September of 1981 to August of 1985. In April of 1986 he enlisted in the Air Force.

His assignments prior to the Pentagon include: Ft. Polk, La.; Fulda, Germany; Hoescht Germany; Richards-Gebaur AFB; Dobbins AFB, Ga.; and Robins AFB, Ga.

After the terrorist attack at the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001, Chief Woody was designated the senior non-commissioned officer in charge of the relief and recovery effort. He organized a staff of volunteers to coordinate the activities of several relief organizations that supported the rescue, law enforcement, and military personnel working at the Pentagon’s relief site.

Chief Woody has more than 29 years of experience in personnel policy and information technology management. He served as the chief of future systems at Headquarters United States Air Force from 1992 to 1996 where he led the installation and training of the Air Force’s personnel concept III personnel data system.

On Nov. 1, 1995, Roger was promoted to chief master sergeant (E-9) at age 32, making him one of the youngest to achieve the Air Force’s most prestigious enlisted rank. On his effective date of retirement, he will have served 15 years of his 29 year career as a "chief."

Chief Woody has a 19 year old son, Mitchell, who is attending Radford University in Virginia. He currently resides with his wife Marion in Centreville, Va.
