A young group of Gallatin Lady Bulldogs opens the 2010 softball season at home next Monday against a Trenton team coming off a second place, Class 2 finish a year ago.
Gone are four starters off last season’s 13-player roster, but this year head coach Casey Moberly and assistant coach Courtney Ray have better numbers to carry them through the season.
Returnees include senior Becca Mott, junior Ashley Burns, sophomores Celsie Baker, Megan Beck, Marissa McNeely, Kylie Cameron, Jade Steele and Elena Steele. New players are junior Tory Wood, sophomore Shelby Springer and freshmen Morgan Horvatin, Kaitlyn McNeely, Kirbie Crouse, Kaitlyn Hefley and Molly Mott.
Coach Moberly is looking at a number of possible alignments that include Baker or Horvatin on the mound, the Marissa or Kaitlyn McNeely behind the plate, Beck at first and Burns at second. Horvatin, Baker or Crouse will play shortstop. Cameron, Crouse or Hefley will play third. The outfield will consist of a combination of Mott, Hefley, Kaitlyn McNeely and Wood.
The Lady Bulldogs follow Monday’s game with a home contest against Milan on Tuesday. Gallatin will participate in the Albany Tournament on Aug. 28, along with Albany, Princeton, Worth County, Stanberry and North Harrison. The Lady Bulldogs will take on Albany at 9 a.m. and will face Princeton at 1 p.m., both on the west field. The tournament’s fifth place game will be on the east field at 3 p.m. The third place contest will be played at 3 p.m. on the west field. The championship game, on the west field, will take place at 5 p.m.
