Gallatin bands invited to Independence Day parade, begins fund-raisers to defray cost

Over the past several years, the Gallatin Bulldog Pride Marching and Concert Bands have earned the privilege of being invited to perform in several exciting and honored venues. They have marched in the Cotton Bowl Parade, as well as performed at its halftime show, have performed at the Missouri Music Educators Association conference at Tan-Tar-A, and have opened for featured acts two times on-stage live at Branson.
Now, the Gallatin Bulldog Pride Band has accepted an invitation to march in the National Independence Day Parade on July 4, 2011. Not only will the students get a chance to help our nation honor its birth, but they will also have the opportunity to tour some of the historical sites in the capitol.
The school is covering transportation costs, and the Gallatin Band Boosters organization is assisting to defray the remaining cost of the trip for each student. The boosters are planning to run several fundraisers from now until next July. Booster officers are: president – Tara Tairent, vice-president – Joyce Flanders, secretary – Rachel Owings, treasurer – Angel Michael.
The boosters sponsored a tractor pull in June of this year. Through this summer they are running a "rent-a-band-student" program whereby persons may hire out a band member to do odd jobs. This project is headed up by booster officer, Rachel Owings.
On July 15, band students took orders for box lunches from businesses in Gallatin and then delivered the lunches on July 22.
Starting soon, the Gallatin Band Boosters will be working with The Corner Café and Hunt Brothers Pizza to help the Gallatin Bulldog Pride Band. The Corner Café will donate $1 for every proof-of-purchase tab from a Hunt Brothers Pizza purchase towards the band’s Washington, D.C. trip. Rhonda McCann is collecting the tabs. The start date for the pizza campaign will be announced later.
Future fundraising projects include a barbecue by Bill Englert; a lawnmower pull over Chautauqua weekend; and the return of the popular cow pie bingo.
The Gallatin Band Boosters club welcomes any and all donations to help defray the students’ cost of the trip. Interested patrons may contact any booster officer in order to make a donation.
