Get one of their famous tenderloins!
The 119th Jameson Picnic is slated for Aug. 12, 13, and 14 at the Jameson City Park.
And if you want one of their famous tenderloins, you better hurry! Last year, Rains Meat provided the picnic with 350 pounds of tenderloin and 140 pounds of hamburger. That translates into 1,400 tenderloins and 560 hamburgers served, as well as plenty of hot dogs and Polish sausages. Between 60 to 80 homemade pies were also donated, meaning several hundred slices of delicious dessert will also be available!
The picnic kicks off on Thursday, Aug. 12, with the local talent show. Registration is at 5:30 and the show is at 6 p.m. There is no registration fee, and the show is open to all ages. Prizes will be awarded. A Zumba demonstration will follow the talent show, and the evening will be capped off with the country show: "Kirk and Mary Lee and The Bluegrass Tornados."
Registration for the baby show begins at 6 p.m. and the show is at 6:30 on Friday, Aug. 13, There is still no registration fee. There are five age groups for both boys and girls and the Little Mr. & Miss contest for three-and four-year-olds. "The Fabulous Torque’s" will follow at 8 p.m., playing music from the ‘50s and ‘60s.
Saturday, Aug. 14, features the parade. Parade registration and lineup is at 10 a.m. at the high school with the parade at 11, rain or shine. A special dinner/meal will be served following the parade. Registration for the Club 180 races begins at noon. This ATV horseshoe drag race begins at 1:30. Games for kids of all ages begin at 1 p.m. An auction begins at 6:30 p.m. with proceeds going to the Jameson Lions Club. The regional band, "Dammit Jim" playing country and classic rock music, is set for 8 p.m. Mark Gay, Keith Gay, John Hightree, Gordon Hale and Greg Landes make up the band.
The Jameson Community Museum will be open from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday. The museum houses several displays including a model of the town, past Jameson Picnic baby show winners, Somerville Lumber and Hardware, and Adam-ondi-Ahman history. The museum is located in the former Post Office building.
A free drawing for many donated prizes will be held every night after the entertainment. Mustang Amusements will be back again this year. Remember to bring your lawn chair and plan on seeing many of your friends back for this annual event.
Don’t forget to bring your old eye glasses and hearing aids to donate to the Lions Club.
