The county commissioners, Mark Hemry and Jesse Bird, members, and Betty Harmison, assessor, were in attendance July 19 for the continuation of the Board of Equalization meeting. Lance Critten called the meeting to order.
Mark Leggett, Liberty Township, met with the board. After the county commission and assessor remeasured the home at Lake Viking on July 12, the square footage was corrected by the assessor to accommodate the lesser amount of living area on the second floor. After a lengthy discussion, the consensus was that the Board of Equalization should not change the method of assessing property at this time. In the future the Board of Equalization should examine the Vanguard method for clarification and explanation.
Danny Heldenbrand moved to leave the assessment as corrected by the assessor. Mark Hemry seconded. Mark Hemry – yes; Jesse Bird – yes; David Cox – yes; Danny Heldenbrand – yes; Lance Critten – yes.
The matter of completion date was then discussed. Danny Heldenbrand moved to accept the 84% completion as of Jan. 1, 2010. David Cox seconded. Mark Hemry – yes; Jesse Bird – yes; David Cox – yes; Danny Heldenbrand – yes; Lance Critten – yes.
They informed Mr. Leggett of his right to appeal the decision to the State Tax Commission.
