Winston R-6 will hold in-services for staff on Aug. 10, 17 and 18. Registration for 10-12 grades is Aug. 12. Registration for 7-9 grades is Aug. 13. All school open house is Aug. 18. The first day of school is Aug. 19.
Students will find that prices for breakfast, lunch and milk held steady for the upcoming school year. Breakfast at the elementary will cost $1.05; lunch $1.80; and milk .25. High school and adult breakfast will cost $1.05; lunch $2.05; and milk .25. All students and adults will be required to pay the board approved meal prices unless they qualify for the Federal Free and Reduced Meal Program.
Those qualifying for reduced meals will have a breakfast cost of .30 and lunch .40.
A family of five qualifies for reduced meals if their yearly income is below $47,712 and they qualify for free meals if their yearly income is below $33,527.
The Federal Eligibility Requirements for Free and Reduced Meals uses a sliding scale for yearly income requirements depending upon household size.
The free and reduced meal applications will be sent home with students at the beginning of school. The district encourages all that are eligible for the program to apply due to the fact that the district receives extra money to help fund academic programs.
In other business at the meeting of the Winston R-6 Board of Education held July 15, the Tax Rate Hearing was set for 7 p.m. on Aug. 19 in the high school.
Elementary and high school student handbooks were approved.
Policy updates and revision from Missouri Consultants for Education were approved. The sick, personal and vacation leave polices were reviewed and amended.
The school gym is closed until July 26 for the floor to be refinished.
Elementary teachers will be training with the new Houghton-Mifflin CA curriculum on July 22.
The final attendance for summer school was 70 students with 96.03% attendance.
The board accepted a bid form Larry Youtsey to mow and bale the eight acres of hay ground next to the school.
Bids from MFA Propane of Maysville and Anderson Erickson of Des Moines, Iowa, for milk were accepted.
Next meeting is at 7 p.m. on Aug. 19.
