Tutoring will replace the Career Ladder program for the Gallatin R-5 School as a means to compensate educators for work done over and above what is required in a regular day, according to the school’s minutes from the school board’s July 15 meeting.
Gallatin teachers will be eligible for three levels of compensation based on year’s of experience and hours of work.
Two-thirds of the hours will be spent in direct student contact tutoring students, with an emphasis on math and language arts. The other one-third of their hours can be with student groups.
The former career ladder committee along with the administration will oversee the new program.
In other business at the meeting of the Gallatin R-5 Board of Education held July 15, in the high school, the Tax Levy Hearing was set for 6 p.m. on Aug. 19 in the superintendent’s office.
Christian Lynch of Trenton was offered employment as a bus driver for the coming year.
Superintendent Dennis Croy gave a report on the arrival of the new bus, scheduled for next week; the MSBA safety conference next week; development with the Northwest RPDC; progress with Title I, Special Education; ASBR; and audit information.
He also reported on some difficulties with the security system as well as an update on repairs and maintenance.
Lin handed out a football, softball and golf schedule.
Mrs. Cox reported on Parents As Teachers (PAT). This program has also taken major funding cuts at the state level. The board felt it still had obligations to many of the PAT families, even though there is less money available for the program.
Mrs. Cox proposed offering a position that is part-time PAT and part-time early childhood education aide. The board agreed with the proposal and employment for the position will be offered before the next scheduled meeting, if possible.
Bus routes, lunch prices and admission prices were approved. Senior citizens were offered half price admission for single game attendance.
Other discussion items were a possible new policy for tuition waivers, developing a comprehensive safety manual for district use, having a facilities walk-through as a part of the next meeting, and the use of personal days at the state fair and other activities. The board moved to allow the administration to grant personal leave at their discretion, following school policy.
