Around 2 a.m., Shane Ott, 41, Cameron, allegedly fired into the air from his vehicle three to five times at a group of teenagers at 1420 Lake Viking Terrace. From his vehicle, he pointed the handgun in a threatening manner at Jacob Gienapp, Robert Rhoades and Bradley Jones. He then exited his vehicle and physically attacked 19-year-old Gienapp by repeatedly striking him with his fists, feet, and the handgun. Gienapp was attempting to seek shelter on the other side of the vehicle. Ott fired the handgun approximately two more times toward Gienapp, striking him in the upper left arm.

Ott stopped the attack when another person, later identified as his brother, Frank Sgambato, calmed him down.

The teens reported the incident to law enforcement at approximately 5 a.m.

At approximately 10 a.m., Ott was apprehended at his residence in Clinton County and held on a 24-hour investigative hold at the Daviess-DaKalb Regional Jail. He was charged July 5 with armed criminal action, assault first degree, and discharging firearm at/from motor vehicle, all felonies. He was released on $75,000 bond, 10% deposit, but bond was revoked later that day, and he is being held at the regional jail pending the preliminary hearing.

According to the probable cause statement, Ott was charged with assault first and second degree and armed criminal action in 1990, but the charges were dismissed.

The victim, Jacob Gienapp of Gallatin, was treated and released from Cameron Regional Medical Center.

The investigation was conducted by the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, Cameron Police Department, Clinton County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

According to Daviess County Deputy Todd Watson, the investigation will continue to determine if there are additional victims or charges to be filed.
