The case alleging sexual harassment and discrimination against the Daviess-DeKalb Regional Jail District and its administrator, Larry Hadley, has been settled for an undisclosed sum of money. The plaintiffs were Amy Sue Curtis of Maysville, Kayci Porter of Hamilton, and Cassie Brown of Bethany.
According to the jail’s attorney Douglas Harpool, the jail’s insurance carrier negotiated a settlement with the plaintiffs before the court ruled on whether or not the case would go to trial. The general settlement was for one sum, Mr. Harpool said, which will supposedly be divided by the three plaintiffs. Part of the settlement was that the jail and Mr. Hadley continue to deny liability.
The dismissal followed a request made by the jail for a Summary Judgment on Claims, which asserts that the plaintiff has raised no genuine issue to be tried. The summary judgment asks the judge to rule in favor of the defense. The request was filed on May 12. The plaintiffs then filed their response.
The Order of Dismissal was signed on June 16 by District Judge Gary A. Fenner. The case was dismissed with prejudice, which bars the possibility of the case being filed again. Parties were ordered to pay their own costs, expenses and attorney fees.
