If you happened to be tuned in to Fox 4 TV station out of Kansas City during a program aired on the evening of June 8, you may have heard an unexpected compliment.
The reporter was interviewing John Robinson. Mr. Robinson recently finished driving every mile of every state and county highway in Missouri. He started his travels about 12 years ago. It has added up to over 250,000 miles.
The interview mentioned "interesting stuff" he has seen along his travels, which included the "surprisingly scenic drive along Highway 6 in Daviess County, with rolling hills and forests."
In other interviews, Mr. Robinson said he enjoyed driving through north Missouri in the fall when the soybeans are turning gold against a backdrop of forests and rolling hills.
Mr. Robinson was the state’s tourism director for four years. His job took him to visit a lot of new places. But he realized there were many places he hadn’t been. To make sure he didn’t miss anything, he made it a goal to travel every road on the map.
Robinson’s travel tales can be read in Missouri Life (www.missourilife.com) and Inside Columbia. He’s in the process of writing a book, a travelogue of sorts about his journeys.
