The Winston R-6 Board of Education accepted staff resignations from elementary counselor Shonna Morrison and high school counselor Casey Arambula during their regular meeting held May 17.
The two teachers have accepted positions at other schools for next year. The district has advertised an opening for a K-12 counselor for the 2010-11 school year.
The board hired Sue Bridgman as a high school math instructor and Nathaniel Wehmeyer as the music instructor for next school year. The board also hired Tyler Mason for summer custodian help.
The board extended Superintendent Brian Robinson’s contract for one additional year, which will maintain a two year contract with the district.
Bids will be taken on two used buses, a 1997 Ford Crown 59 passenger bus and a 1997 Ford Blue Bird 47 passenger bus. Bids will be opened at 6 p.m. on June 10 at the regular board meeting and accepted until 12 p.m. on June 9 at the school offices.
The HDC Conference Wide Professional Development Day is set for Aug. 10 at the NCMC campus at Trenton.
The elementary principal reported an enrollment of 116 students in preschool through sixth grade. Attendance rate for April was 97.03%. April Students of the Month were Tyler Muessig and Cheyenne Henderson.
Pancakes for Parents dinner served around 150. The elementary STUCO refurbished the front landscape. Over 100 students attended te AR cARnival.
High school principal reported 75 students enrolled in grades 7-12 with an attendance rate of 96.27%. May Students of the Month are Tabitha Piburn and Bryan Lee.
Mrs. Arambula’s BIONIC character council held seventh grade orientation. They did a power point presentation about the class schedule and took a tour of the building. All 7-12 grade students have been pre-enrolled for Fall classes.
The administrative team will attend an Active Shooter seminar on May 28 in Gallatin. The meeting deals with intruders, safety and other issues.
The board approved the DESE Special Education IDEA Compliance Plan.
Presentations were made by the Salary and Welfare Committee to the board about employee health insurance and the district certified salary schedule. The board approved the district paid health insurance plans for the 2010-2011 school year with United Health Care.
The board set the certified salary schedule base at $25,400 and increased noncertified compensation 3% for the 2010-11 school year.
District Program Evaluations were approved in the areas of curriculum and instructional effectiveness.
The board offered Letters of Intent for noncertified staff working during summer school.
Next regular board meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 10.
