The 72nd Annual Meeting of Farmers’ Electric Cooperative will be held Tuesday, June 8, at the Gary Dickinson Performing Arts Center in Chillicothe. Registration for the meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. Board President Ron Cornett, Pattonsburg, will call the meeting to order at 7 p.m.
"We will be doing something different this year just prior to the business meeting," said Mike Sanders, FEC’s chief executive officer. "Beginning at 5:30, our member services department will present an energy efficiency workshop that will conclude just before 7 o’clock."
Sanders said the topics to be covered at the workshop would include energy gougers, lighting, insulation, heating and cooling, efficiency opportunities, lifestyle changes, home energy audits and more.
During the course of the business meeting, one director will be elected from District No. 6, which includes the FEC’s service territory in Linn County. The Cooperative’s Committee on Nominations, which was elected by the membership at the 2009 Annual Meeting, nominated Ray Shields, Meadville, for re-election.
The business meeting, which normally lasts about 75 minutes, will include presentations by Cornett, Sanders and FEC attorney Dana Macoubrie.
Registration for the annual meeting will again be held on the west side of the Performing Arts Center. Members who register will receive a bucket with a three-pack of Energy Star compact fluorescent light bulbs, a barbecue cooking spatula, a coupon from FEC Services, "Our Energy, Our Future" signature card and an FEC Home Energy Audit sign up sheet.
While the adult members of the cooperative will be attending the business meeting, the younger members will be entertained at a Kids Fun Zone, located in the Chillicothe High School Field House, which is located on the north end of the complex. Activities and supervision will be provided by the Chillicothe FCCLA chapter and the Cornerstone Church. Games, a bounce house and face painting will keep the younger members involved while the meeting is underway.
"We’ve added something new for the younger members, as well," Sanders aid. "This year a lucky boy and girl will each win a rechargeable electric scooter in a drawing that will be held just before 7 p.m."
Once the business meeting has concluded over 50 prizes will be given away. The grand prize winner will have their choice of a 47-inch LG television, a Whirlpool 9150 front end washer and dryer, a Whirlpool ED5 refrigerator or a Maytag 6765 Double Oven.
