Teddy Holcomb asked to hire a seasonal person for summer help in the street department and discussed bids on the hot mix project for this summer during the regular meeting of the Gallatin Board of Aldermen held May 24. After returning from an executive session, the board agreed to hire two seasonal employees for the summer of 2010.
Public comments were made regarding an issue with an electric meter and an invitation to the board to visit the livestock barn.
Police Chief Mark Richards submitted a report on activity from May 10 to May 24. The following reports were taken and tickets given: two domestics; two animal control; two property damage; one check welfare; one assist DFS; two 9-1-1 hang up calls; one window tint violation; one suspicious person; one stealing; one accident; one medical assist; one blocking traffic; one assist motorists; one house fire; two business alarms; one minor in possession. There are two dogs in the pound.
Chief Richards stated that the police department is participating in the National Occupant Protection campaign May 24 to June 6. They are currently working on grass code violations.
Bills in the amount of $22,310.06 were approved for payment.
Discussion was held on electric system re-financing that is set to close on this Thursday, May 27.
An ordinance to permit low speed vehicles to be operated on city streets under certain conditions and with a city permit received a first and second reading.
Discussion was held on new testing regulations starting at the water plant on June 1.
Discussion was held on the park bylaws and the appointments of park board members. Mayor Ballew will be attending the park meeting in June to discuss both of these issues.
Greg Lollar was re-appointed to the Dockery Park Board for a three year term and Ricky Hendricks was appointed for a three year term.
A letter was presented to the board from the senior center regarding sewer issues.
City Administrator Zac Johnson discussed the hot mix project for this summer, items the city is putting out for bid this week, ponds, and the water plant.
Comments by aldermen were made regarding banners and creating an electric replacement fund.
Mayor Ballew stated that she signed a proclamation for Law Enforcement Torch Run Day for Missouri Special Olympics.
The board entered into closed session pursuant to legal actions and litigation and hiring, firing, disciplining or promoting employees.
