In high school, Colton was team captain of the varsity football team and received all-conference, all-district, all-state and academic all-state honors as a football athlete. He was named to three area All-Star Dream Teams and received the Heart and Desire award at Gallatin High School. In addition to football, Colton participated in track and field and basketball. He was a member and treasurer of National Honor Society, a member of the Future Business Leaders of America, and a student council member. He attended Missouri Boys State in 2009, and he was the valedictorian of his class.

"We are excited to have Colton join our program," said MVC Assistant Football Coach Denny Honnold. "We have high expectations for Colton and know that he will be an asset to Missouri Valley College and Missouri Valley Football."

Colton is the son of Kurt and Tina Esbeck of Gallatin. He plans to major in education at Missouri Valley College. Selby is pictured with his mother, Tina Esbeck, and Viking Head Coach Paul Troth.

Missouri Valley finished 8-2 in 2009 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. The Vikings are 38-9 overall since 2006.
