Lawrence Edward Landes was born the son of William Henry and Effie Susan (McClung) Landes, March 28, 1915 in Coffey, Mo.

Lawrence grew up and went to school in Coffey, where he also worked on the family farm.

He joined the U.S. Army in October of 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1946.

Lawrence married Gracia Belle Brown on May 26, 1943 in King City, Mo., while on furlough. After his discharge they moved to the family farm.

From 1952 on, Lawrence had several different jobs before settling down for 20 years with Ford Motor Company. He retired in 1979. He moved to Hubbard then to Canby in 1980, lived there until May of 2009, then moved to Dundee, Oregon. He enjoyed farming, hunting, and anything in the outdoors.

He and his family attended, Family Life Church in Newberg. Lawrence was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

On Friday, May 7, 2010, Lawrence Edward Landes died at an adult foster care home when he was 95 years, one month and nine days of age.

Surviving and left to honor his life are: his wife, Gracia Landes; one son Austin Landes and his wife, Juanita from Newberg, Ore.; one grandson, Justin Landes; one granddaughter, Catrina Guyton; one great-grandson, Mason Stone Guyton; and those who have come to know and appreciate him where he has lived and worked.

Graveside service with Military Honors will be Friday, May 14, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. in Hubbard Cemetery, Hubbard. Arrangements are in the care of Attrell’s Newberg Funeral Chapel, a Golden Rule Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.attrells.com.
