Donovan Stout, Cody Selby and Tyler Brackett advanced to the sectional round by finishing in the top four in their events at last weekend’s Class 2 district at Richmond. The three Bulldogs will try to go one step further by finishing in the top four at sectional and earning berths in the MSHSAA Track and Field Championships on May 21-22 at Lincoln University in Jefferson City.

Stout entered the district 800-meter run with the seventh fastest time among competitors but tucked in behind West Platte’s Will Wilson early in the race and finished in the runnerup spot with a season-best time of 2:06.18, which would have won the District 7 race at Knob Noster. Wilson’s D8 winning time was 2:04.99.

A strong north wind affected distances in the long jump, but Brackett and Selby came through with second and third place finishes, respectively. Brackett jumped 18-9.50 to edge out Selby’s 18-9.25. Hamilton’s Dylan Chadwick won the event as part of a four-event championship day by the Hornet senior. His winning distance was 19-6.25. Three jumpers from District 7 cleared 19 feet in Saturday’s competition.

Class 1 qualifiers

Winston’s girls were successful in qualifying in four events at Saturday’s Class 1 meet at St. Joe Christian High School. Pattonsburg and Gilman City will each send one female athlete to the sectional meet at Albany.

Lady Redbird Jordan Davis finished second in the 3200-meter run (14:27.60) and third in the 1600-meter run (6:28) at district and will compete in both at sectional. Teammate Amber Mullen was third in the district 100-meter hurdles (17.72) and joined Stephanie Giguere, Baylea Martin and Emily McFee in third-place efforts in both the 4×100-meter relay and 4×200-meter relay.

Pattonsburg’s Sarah Emerson will compete in the sectional’s high jump event after a third place (4’6") performance at district.

Gilman City’s Sage Johnson finished third in the district 100-meter dash (13.77) and will also vie for a state berth at Albany.
