Missouri Revised Statute 307.173 and Gallatin City Ordinance 380.180 both state that the front sidewing vents or windows located immediately to the left and right of the driver can be no darker than 35%.

In an effort to help drivers keep in compliance with these laws the Gallatin Police Department will be offering free window tint inspections for the month of May.

Chief Richards announced that he will offer car window tint inspection as a courtesy to the public beginning May 1. The courtesy tint inspections will be done by Gallatin police officers using tint meters recently obtained from the Missouri Division of Highway Safety.

Officers will check car windows to determine if the tint is within legal limits. If the tint is legal, officers will issue a form with a description of the vehicle and the read out from the tint meter. If the tint is illegal, no form will be filled out and no tickets will be issued. Drivers will be made aware of the illegal read out and be advised to comply with Missouri State Statute.

If you have any questions in regards to the laws regarding window tint you can contact the Gallatin Police Department at (660) 663-3580.
