The Grand River Storm Girls 18-under Fastpitch Softball team traveled to Blue Springs this past weekend to compete in the Sonic Midwest Challenge.
The team went 3-1 to capture third place. In the first game Storm defeated Pleasant Hill 8-1. Courtney Warford was the winning pitcher and captured game MVP honors.
Saturday afternoon saw Synergy from Knob Knoster as the opponent. Storm was once again victorious by the score of 4-2. Kylie Marconnet was the winning pitcher and also captured game MVP. In Saturday’s third game Storm upset eventual tournament champion Blue Springs Destruction by the score of 10-2. The third inning proved to be the big inning as Storm scored five runs. Baylea Martin Storm Catcher was named game MVP.
Sunday was a rematch with the Destruction team and the area team fell 3-0 to capture third. Team Members include Kayla Bird, Taylor Zimmerman and Kylie Marconnet from Maysville; Hillary Todd and Kaylee Barnett from Union Star; Ashley Nail and Brittany Glenn from Bethany; Nicole Gregornick, Rachel Brice, and Baylea Martin from Winston, and Courtney Warford from Pattonsburg.
The team, formed in 2010 and playing in their first tournament, is locally sponsored and is coached by Buck Gardner and Lee Warford, both of Pattonsburg.
