Kyle Croy of the Gallatin FFA Chapter, Gallatin, was named the state winner of the Missouri FFA Agricultural Sales Entrepreneurship Proficiency Award at the 82nd Missouri FFA Convention held April 15 and 16 in Columbia.

Croy, a graduate of Gallatin R-V High School, is the son of Dennis and Sheri Croy. His FFA advisors are Wes Strange and Chris Henderson.

Croy’s Supervised Agricultural Experience Program consists of the marketing of purebred swine. He sets his own prices rather than accepting what is offered at the market. He used magazines, the internet, flyers and sales to market show pigs and breeding stock.

As an FFA member, Croy has attended state and national FFA conventions and participated in courtesy corps. In addition, he is a member of the Missouri Pork Association and the Gallatin First Christian Church. He also is a high school student council representative.

Seventeen members of the Gallatin FFA Chapter attended the convention. Activities kicked off at noon on Thursday with the Agronomy and Floriculture competition. Members of these teams from GHS included Kristin Critten, Jacob Bell, Riley Vanatta, Joey Flanders, Jason Moore, Ryan Chadwick, Sarah Smith and Molly Lowe. Both teams earned a Group 2 rating.

Celsie Baker and Garrett McNeely represented Gallatin in the business session held Thursday. The remainder of the members attended leadership workshops hosted by present and past state officers.

The competition began Friday morning for the Ag Mechanics team. This GHS team received a Group 2 rating and consisted of John Lollar, Hunter Prentice and Myrick McLey. Breanne Brammer competed in the advanced category of public speaking. Other members attended leadership workshops and the career show at this time.

State FFA Degrees were bestowed upon 3% of the state membership on Friday evening. Those receiving the degree from the Gallatin Chapter included John Lollar, Hunter Prentice, Nicole Middaugh, Shelby Chadwick, Casey Alden and Ryan Chadwick. Members serving in the Courtesy Corp during this session included Danielle Ness, Celsie Baker, Jacob Bell, Joey Flanders, Riley Vanatta, Garrett McNeely, Kristin Critten, Myrick Mcley with Breanne Brammer working in the media room.

Doug and Sandra Alden chaperoned the trip for the Gallatin FFA Chapter. Gallatin advisors are Chris Henderson and Wes Strange.

Lindsey Lambert of Pattonsburg FFA received her State Degree and a Proficiency Award for Grain Production at the state convention. The PHS Poultry Team placed in the top 10, the highest from Nrthwest Missouri. Justin Conover was the sixth highest individual in the poultry division.

Jamesport FFA placed 19th out of 324 chapters in the state, earning the Top Chapter Award at the 82nd Missouri FFA Convention. Only 10% of state chapters receive the Top Chapter Award each year.

Chapter activity awards, sponsored by FCS Financial, are given to chapters achieving excellence in student, chapter and community development. Jamesport FFA Chapter advisor is Amy Holder.

The Jamesport FFA student development activities included awarding the Chapter FFA Scholarship Medal to chapter banquet members who maintain a B-average in core and elective classes for three consecutive quarters. Other student development activities included proficiency award workshops and Area 2 Bowling Night.

Chapter development activities are designed to promote excellence within the chapter. Jamesport members took part in FFA Summer Barbecue. During the local livestock show, FFA members hosted a barbecue for members of the community. Other chapter development activities included a livestock show supporter’s banquet and chapter officer leadership development.

Jamesport’s community development included Adopt-A-Family. Members of the FFA and other local vocational group members were able to purchase more than $300 worth of clothes and toys for a local family. Other community development activities included Adopt-A-Highway and FFA Petting Zoo.

Madison Huston of the Jamesport FFA Chapter, Jamesport, was named the winner of the Missouri FFA Food Science Technology Proficiency Award at the 82nd Missouri FFA Convention. Huston is the daughter of Mike and Gerri Huston. Her FFA advisor is Amy Holder.

Huston’s Supervised Agricultural Experience Program in food science consists of working with the Tri-County R-VII School District food services and food science laboratory experiments. She will use her experiences in the food science industry and FFA to become an agriculture teacher.

She also won first place in the State FFA Division II Prepared Public Speaking contest. Sixteen students competed at the state level.

Division II Prepared Public Speakers deliver a four- to six-minute speech based on an agriculture topic that they have selected and researched. The contestants present their speech in front of a panel of judges and then undergo an additional four minutes of questions. The judges base their decision on the information presented, the student’s knowledge of the subject, the delivery of the speech and the answers to the questions.

While in FFA, Huston participated in national, state and local activities along with attending national and state FFA conventions. She also is active in softball, basketball, track, Future Business Leaders of America, and served as her class president.

Denten Wray of the Jamesport FFA Chapter, Jamesport, was named the winner of the Missouri FFA Dairy Production Placement Proficiency Award at the 82nd Missouri FFA Convention.

Wray, a senior at Tri-County R- VII High School, is the son of Donnie Wray and Teresa Hamilton. His FFA advisor is Amy Holder.

In Wray’s Supervised Agricultural Experience Program, he works for both Hoffman Dairy Farm and Grazeland Organic Dairy Farm. He is responsible for milking cows, herd health management, hauling hay, maintenance of fences, cleaning pens and forage production.

Bailey Hixson of the Jamesport FFA Chapter in Jamesport, was named second-place winner of the Missouri FFA Agricultural Sales Placement Award at the 82ndMissouri FFA Convention.

Hixson, a senior at Tri-County R-VII High School in Jamesport, is the daughter of Lori Landes and Kevin Hixson. Her FFA advisor is Amy Holder.

Hixson has participated in numerous FFA events and activities including national and state FFA conventions and Washington Leadership Conference. She has participated in the Missouri Farm Bureau Public Speaking Contest and the farm management career development event. She also is a member of Brushy Squirrels 4-H Club.

Hixson’s Supervised Agricultural Experience Program consists of a diversified agriculture business called Landes Oil. She has worked there since 2006 and has learned that there is more to agriculture business than just selling products. Her job consists of stocking items and selling tires and equipment. Providing high-quality customer service is important to Hixson, and customer service has helped her become a better salesperson.

James Ruse of Gallatin R-5, Jeremy Dodds of North Daviess R-3, and Amy Holder of Tri-County R-2 were named an Honorary State FFA Degree recipients at the 82ndMissouri FFA Convention.

Ruse is the superintendent of the Gallatin R-V school district, where he has supported the local FFA chapter for 25 years. Under Ruse’s supervision, the Gallatin FFA Chapter has acquired money for tools, computers and a greenhouse to improve and enhance the quality of the students’ agricultural education.

Dodds has had many students receive the American FFA Degree. He also has had many area FFA proficiency award winners.

Holder attended high school at Cameron, where she served as a chapter officer for two years, as well as area officer and state vice president from Area 1. Holder has taught agricultural education for seven years, five in Pattonsburg and two in Jamesport. She lives near Gallatin with her husband, Josh.

Samantha Hutchinson, Briana Hixson and Timbre Gardner, all of Jamesport; and Breanne Brammer of Gallatin participated in the media room press corps at the 82nd Missouri FFA Convention.

Samantha Hutchinson is a freshman at Tri-County High School. She is the daughter of Vince and Nichole Hutchinson.

Hutchinson has been very active in her FFA chapter. Her Supervised Agricultural Experience program consists of cattle production. Hutchinson’s hobbies and activities included playing sports. Hutchinson’s future plans are to attend North Central Missouri and receive a degree in animal science.

Hixson is a freshman at Tri-County High School. She is the daughter of Kevin Hixson and Lori Landes. Hixson has been very active in her FFA chapter. Her Supervised Agricultural Experience program consists of cattle production.

Hixson’s hobbies and activities included playing sports, showing cattle, and working on the farm.

Hixson’s future plans are to attend Northwest Missouri College.

Gardner is a sophomore at Tri-County High School. She is the daughter of Delana Gardner.

Gardner has been very active in her FFA chapter. Her Supervised Agricultural Experience program consists of cattle production.

Gardner’s hobbies and activities included basketball, softball, track and cheerleading.

Gardner’s future plans are to attend North Central Missouri College for two years and transfer to either Northwest or Missouri University to major in business law.

Brammer is a junior at Gallatin High School. She is the daughter of Kim and Dennis Brammer.

Brammer has been very active in her FFA chapter. Her Supervised Agricultural Experience program consists of veterinary medicine, agriculture communications, and beef production.

Brammer’s hobbies and activities include public speaking, showing cattle and horses, and scrapbooking.

Brammer’s future plans are to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia where she will pursue a degree in Agriculture Journalism.
