The fund-raiser will challenge the community, listeners, and businesses to pledge financial support to Camp Quality. Past campers will be invited to call in and share their experiences. During the radio program, Patrick will share his own inspirational story of his struggle with a rare form of neuro blastoma cancer (only 550 cases reported nationwide per year). He has been in remission for two years.
Patrick, a seventh grader, will also talk about his experiences at Camp Quality. This will be his fifth year attending. His favorite activity at camp is fishing. The camp also offers the other traditional outdoor activities, including canoeing, swimming and horseback riding. Special facilities, menus and activities are created so the kids can forget about treatments and surgeries and live like normal kids for awhile.
From the minute they hit the ground, each camper is paired with a companion — a volunteer who has gone through eight hours of training. Patrick’s companion this year will be Aaron Earley of Cameron.
Cameron/Bethany Radio-A-Thon will be broadcast from the Hy-Vee parking lot at Bethany. They will be having a barbecue and Patrick will be grilling hamburgers and hot dogs, so be sure and stop by to get yours.
Patrick’s mother is Laura Hoyle, his father is Kerry McBroom, He has two brothers, Morgan,9, Keegan, 4, and one sister, Chan, 21 months. His grandparents are Mildred and Clayton McBroom of Gallatin and Allen and May Hoyle of Bethany.
