Three Winston R-6 students, Jordan Leonard, J.R. O’Dell, and Aaron Piburn, have begun a community improvement project that involves recycling. The goal is to improve the city park.
Since Dec. 7, 2009, the students have gone around town collecting cans and other recyclable items. They will use the items to raise money to buy playground equipment for the city park.
Winston residents are asked to put their recyclables in garbage bags by the streets so the students can collect them. The cans are collected first Sunday of each month.
The students hope to have slides and playground equipment at the park similar to what the school has. If the project goes well, they may be able to have enough funds for sand volleyball or tether-ball.
