The North Daviess R-3 Board of Education voted to eliminate the high school principal position for the 2010-2011 school year due to financial reasons during their regular meeting held Tuesday, Feb. 16. The board also carried a motion to renew Cheryl Cornett’s part-time elementary principal position for the 2010-2011 school year.

In other business, the financial statement was presented and bills paid.

The 2010-2011 school calendar was amended.

There were two vacancies on the school board for the next term. Cecil McCrary will be returning for another term and Jessica Nelson will begin her first term in April. The final report for the MSIP review will be sent after the Federal Programs review, which was rescheduled for Feb. 19.

Mrs. Morris presented the utilities costs and maintenance cost of the buildings to the board.

The PAT evaluation was postponed until next month.

Mrs. Lowrey and the senior class presented their plans to travel to Pigeon Forge, Tenn., during the week of May 17. The board approved the senior trip.

During administrative reports, Mrs. Morris reported on a Feb. 18 home game. Homecoming will be held Friday, Feb. 26, with both games beginning at 6 p.m.

Mr. Hartley reported on character education. The Junior High Academic season ended with a tournament on Feb. 20. High school academic districts will start soon.

Cheryl Cornett announced that Draiven McGuire, Mikah Heckenbach and Brooke Dustman represented the school at the Daviess County Spelling Bee. Co-students of the month were Lewis Hunter and Dakota Boe. Students demonstrating honesty were Santanna Youngs, Haylee Hanes, Lewis Hunter, Dakota Boe, Draiven McGuire and Brooke Dustman. Family Fun Night will held on Thursday, March 4, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Elementary basketball tournaments are coming up, beginning at 1:15 p.m. on March 8 and at 5 p.m. at Pattonsburg. The North Daviess Tournament will be held March 15-20. Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held from 1-8 p.m. on March 11. There will be a book fair during the conferences.

The board entered into executive session pursuant to employee matters.

Next meeting was set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16, at the elementary library in Coffey.

Board members present were David Iddings, Debbie Ray, Jason Lewis, Axel Olson and Doug Baker. Absent were Jeremy Hunter and Cecil McCrary.
